Campervans in Burghead

Moray Council has announced details of a new pilot scheme that will permit overnight stays for campervans and motorhomes at the Station Road car park in Burghead.

The trial, running during the peak visitor season from 1 April to 30 November 2026, follows a public consultation in which residents and visitors expressed strong support for designated overnight parking options. The initiative aims to provide a safe, controlled space for overnight stays while supporting local businesses and addressing concerns from the community.

Burghead was selected for the pilot due to its strong local backing and the availability of nearby waste‑disposal facilities at Burghead Harbour. Under the scheme, self-contained campervans and motorhomes will be permitted to stay between 6pm and 10am for a maximum of one night. A £7 fee will be payable through Moray Council’s PayByPhone parking app.

New signage is being installed at the site to outline the rules of use and to direct visitors toward nearby shops and local amenities.

Nicola Moss, Head of Operations & Environment at Moray Council, said: “This pilot is about finding a balance between welcoming visitors and respecting local communities. Burghead provides a good location to test how a managed overnight stay scheme works in practice. The trial will allow us to gather real-world evidence and listen carefully to feedback before any decisions are taken about next steps. We hope everyone who visits Burghead and the wider area enjoys its beauty and treats it with the respect it deserves.”

The Council will review the results of the pilot before determining whether similar schemes may be introduced elsewhere in Moray.
